I slid sideways into screen acting: I'd burned the candle at both ends as a rocker and I had to get out of the pubs and clubs or hit the wall. Anyway, a TV producer was looking for someone to play a weird acid-casualty DJ in a drama series - not a big stretch for me at the time. I must've been the weirdest one to turn up and they gave me the gig.
While I was doing that, I scored the role of Jim Sullivan in 'The Sullivans,' and it's just gone on from there.
I've been incredibly fortunate. Some actors spend years studying drama and all that and I just bluffed my way through, which I s'pose is what acting is in a way. But I've always missed singing and working with other musicians.
A year or so back I started going to blues jams more, getting the guitar out more. Then I just knew I had to give it a go. I also knew that being a known head on telly wouldn't go far musically so I went in to record some songs as a demo. That's all it was at that stage, a calling card CD for agents and club owners. A few originals and the rest covers, but the originals kept coming. They must've been backed up, waiting for an outlet.
"If I'd known I'd Live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself" is what the blues singer, Eubie Blake said on his 100th birthday. I really identify with that. I did knock myself around a bit. At first I thought I was too old to get back out there, but it's such a buzz to be singing again and, like another song on the album says, "We'll Never Have This Time Again."
This is all bonus life.

Andy Anderson's face is far more well-known than his voice but his new CD should put paid to that. 'If I'd known I'd live this long' is a collection of easy listening country songs all knocked together with some relaxed musicians . . . if you turn up the volume in the car, tracks such as, ‘Road to Your Heart’ or ‘We'll Never Have This Time Again’ will help you burn up the miles on a long journey. It's the sort of music that grows familiar easily and pressing the replay button will become a habit.
