When I ordered this music CD I was hoping for a little entertainment to help pass some time. From the first song I was captured. This album tells a story. The story is not about losing a job, a wife or big Ford trucks. It’s a story about finding something big, the path to finding Serenity, Spirituality, Fellowship and Freedom, one step (or song) at a time. I started by buying one CD for this review and have since ordered three more for family and friends. This is a great gift for anyone involved in recovery and the twelve steps. Thank You Mary Lyn B. for your contribution to our recovery.

As the motivational track coordinator at Hope Center Recovery Program for Women, serving homeless or marginally housed drug addict or alcoholic women, my goal is to provide hope in any way possible. Music is a wonderful tool for my ladies and they are really enjoying listening to the CDs you donated. Many of them have no family support through this process and your CD has really touched them. You are a blessing to my clients. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness.

About Mary Lyn B.

With the twelve steps as her north star, Mary Lyn’s journey is reflected in songs that will appeal to anyone at any stage of recovery. Her contagious joy shines from the stage and her music is sure to bring strength and encouragement to everyone.

Music has always been Mary Lyn's saving grace. She attended Ohio University, where she studied theatre, wrote songs, and also performed at local venues. At age twenty, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. After achieving some success, at age twenty-four she "hit bottom." That's when she was introduced to the twelve steps.

After five years of sobriety, Mary Lyn got married, gave birth to two beautiful daughters, and then distanced herself from "the program," putting her guitar in the closet along with her copy of the "Big Book." Another five years later, with her spirit completely broken and bruised, Mary Lyn returned to the steps. Now willing to go to any length to stay sober, she bought a new "Big Book," a new guitar, and did her best to learn them both again.

Transformed by her own experience with the twelve steps, Mary Lyn set out to write twelve songs about her journey. Her willingness to capture her experience in song in order to share it with others resulted in her first CD, Twelve Songs. Each song on Twelve Songs uniquely relates to a corresponding step.

Mary Lyn's mission is to share her recovery and carry the twelve step message in music. She has performed at recovery festivals, conventions, and private fundraising events across the United States, including the Long Beach Freedom Festival, Founder's Day in Temecula, and C.A. World Convention in Los Angeles, RecoveryFest in Nashville, TN, SoberJam in New Orleans, LA, and the 41st Annual Women's Convention in Las Vegas, NV. Twelve Songs has sold over 2,000 copies since its release.
