About Karen Flynn
Karen Flynn is from the true tradition of honky-tonk performing and was influenced by such artists as Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Don Williams, George Jones and Loretta Lynn.
She's a performer at the world-reknown Bluebird Café, where she plays "in the round" and with her band, Whoa Nelly. She is also well known at the Exit/In, one of the oldest rock 'n roll and honky-tonk venues where she is a regular act on the Billy Block Western Beat Roots Revival Show that airs on several radio stations, and on CMT.
Karen has received airplay all over Europe, Scandinavia, and the United Kingdom and the title cut on her CD, Honkytonkified reached the top 15 on the Euro in June, 2000.
In August of 2000, Karen returned from a successful five-week tour of the United Kingdom and Sweden. While in the U.K., Karen and her band performed fourteen dates including the Americana Festival (the largest festival in England with a turnout of 40,000) and the Wolverstock Country Music Festival.
Karen Flynn resides in Nashville, Tennessee.
News and Reviews
Plenty of nice fiddle, steel, banjo, good production and the singing's pretty good, too. But one wonders what the career prospects are for singers like Karen. For certain the major labels aren't interested in the traditional approach to country music and neither is American country radio. A sad situation, with no solution on the horizon. Nevertheless, there is still an audience out there desperate to hear this kind of country, rather than the Shanias of this world, so perhaps they should seek out Karen Flynn.

Florida's Karen Flynn also has much for the dancers on Honkytonkified (Bob Grady Records). Karen began performing at a young age and, together with her band, has played just about every club in southern Florida. More recently she has been working in Nashville as a session and demo singer and completing Honkytified. Karen wrote or co-wrote all but two of the thirteen songs, and powerful stuff they are too. Producer Lance Hoppen (who worked on million-selling albums by Orleans) draws the very best from Karen, especially on the dance numbers "Her Side of the Bed," "Girl Talk," "You Two Timed Me One Time Too Many" and the title cut. Hope Karen makes it to the UK soon. I'll bet she's quite something on stage.
