About Danny Bravin

After serving in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam War, Bravin moved to Hollywood, California to pursue a music career.

"I guess I did it all; I gigged around town, went on the road with different bands, wrote jingles for Gallo wine, Mazda, Suzuki, and the like, scored several B movies and was hired as a staff writer by Mr. Herb Eisman of 20th Century Music."

At the same time, Bravin succombed to the temptation of drugs and the lifestyle that comes with it. After losing his way, Bravin left the music business. He made a marginal comeback in the mid-eighties and was signed to Alfa Records and Japan Central Publishing in Tokyo, Japan. He played all original-music showcases in and around Hollywood with an excellent band, but by that time he was burnt out and was left with nothing fresh, inspiring, or uplifting to say.

In 1997, Bravin gave up his addictions (and some were not easy to give up) and moved to a small town about fifty miles north of Hollywood, where he worked the ranch that he and his wife bought. Life in the country was great, but Bravin missed playing music.

The need to play first led him to a local blues band, an eighteen piece Big Band (Verdugo Swing Band) and finally to the little Four Square Church in town, where Bravin's wife was a regular member.

The folks at the church were singing acapella, sounding to Bravin as "quite desperate and sad." It was only natural for Bravin to offer his services and only natural for the pastor to accept. Playing in church gave Bravin an opportunity for self expression, which he found "quite fulfilling. I even found myself caring for the dear people of the congregation but playing was never more than 'just another gig.'"

One evening, seven years later, Bravin felt himself being consumed with grace and knew he was free. Until then, he had been living in a creative desert and hadn't written a song in twenty years. From that moment on, his creative juices were flowing again and he once again had something uplifting to say and something inspiring to sing about.

In the short months that followed, he completed Here I Am, a CD that received the prestigious Los Angeles Music Awards 2005 Album of the Year Award in the Contemporary Christian/Gospel category.
