About Jennifer Parsignault
Jennifer Parsignault’s songs, filled with emotion and conviction, combine sophisticated lyrics and captivating sounds that resonate with both introspection and profound spirituality. This music is unique in that it both soothes the soul, and simultaneously lifts the heart with hope.
Jennifer’s classical music background is reflected in her work; she started on violin and piano at a tender age, and later pursued formal music studies at Boston’s Berklee College of Music as a Cleo Laine scholarship recipient. Following her graduation, the pull of Pop music deepened.
As the scope of her musical repertoire expanded, Jennifer explored Fleetwood Mac and Billy Joel, among others, and it was not long before she was writing her own songs.
After relocating from Boston to Los Angeles, freelancing as a studio and stage vocalist occupied her efforts. During this time, she worked with a wide variety of artists, including Irene Cara, Miguel Kertzman, Lita Ford, Katelyn Hopkins, and Bang Tango.
At the same time, Jennifer assembled her own "Most Excellent Band," the goal being to showcase her own music. As Jennifer wrote and worked, the drive to record that music grew stronger.
The debut album, Jennifer, was released in 1996. Album Network called her music ". . . sweet, intimate and accomplished." That same year, the album was also released in Spain and Portugal, where she garnered critical acclaim. International radio time was plentiful and positive: Jennifer was "Album de la Semana" at Radio Tordera 107.1FM, in Tordera, Spain. Songs from the album enjoyed generous radio airplay, including heavy spins at Penguin FM, Bali FM, Cassanova FM, Hot 100.9, and CDBS FM, in Bali, Indonesia.
The second album, RED, was released in 1997. Jennifer Parsignault’s popularity continued to grow via radio in the United States as well as in Europe.
Again, Album Network praised the artist and the music, commenting on Jennifer’s “. . . tremendous growth as a singer and songwriter.” Favorable radio airplay, along with interest for film and television projects, built a strong momentum as her listenership expanded.
Oh, My, Jennifer’s third album, was released in 2000. It revealed something new and wonderful to the world – it displayed an experienced heart and maturing soul. With its colorful lyrics and evocative emotional textures—from the sweet and tender ballads, (Song for St. Symin, Beautiful One), to the strong, hypnotic up-tempo cuts (Some Religion, Matter of Time and the title track, Oh, My) — the album gave full play to the extraordinary range that Jennifer’s voice is capable of conveying. It’s a dazzling array, in one moment vulnerable and intimate, in the next pure strength and power.
Jennifer Parsignault's music has been featured in film including independent films Kejar Amerika and Solid Cover. Television credits include "Dawson's Creek", MTV's "Undressed", Discovery Channel's "Outward Bound", as well as Australia's, "The Saddle Club" and Spain's "Hasiberriak" and "Goenkale". Jennifer’s music has also been featured on National Public Radio.
From The Dark, Jennifer’s latest offering, takes the listener to new levels. Nine new songs make up this fresh collection, which once again features Jennifer on violin, piano, and keyboards.
With Parsignault's trademark intricate arrangements, From The Dark moves ever deeper, approaching something contemplative and darkly glittering, as it wraps rich, memorable melodies around thoughtful lyrics. Standout tracks include Orbit Again, an upbeat ode to new love, Fragile, with its pulsing rhythm and lush strings, and the Peter Gabriel inspired Back Home.
Once again, Jennifer invites us to join her on a richly rewarding musical journey, discovering love, redemption, and possible answers to the eternal question, “what is this life all about?”
News and Reviews
. . . an excellent example of what a great Pop record is supposed to sound like. "From The Dark" embodies sincere vocals, complimented by well crafted songs written by Parsignault, and is carefully balanced with reflective but sophisticated musical arrangements. "From The Dark" displays a strong caring spirit about it, a spirit that easily makes following along with Jennifer on her musical quest an enjoyable experience. She will simply blow your mind on "On The Outside" and mess with your heart and spirit on "Last Dance," "Back Home," and "Found."

Sticking with the Pure Adult Contemporary style, Jennifer delivers a nine song CD that gathers around her stunningly beautiful vocals of amazing range (a cross between Kate Bush and Tori Amos) and her masterful piano and keyboard arrangements (drawing to mind Elton John and Keith Emerson), and is accented by her virtuoso violin talent. . . . "From The Dark" pulls its range from the cannons of such luminaries as Streisand, Minelli, and Midler, while becoming everything Linda Ronstadt always wanted to be.

This is a collection of deeply spiritual love songs with a new-yet-familiar quality. The new part is easy - Parsignault has a fresh approach to lyricism with an uncanny ability to conjour vivid images that ebb and flow in her swirling melodies; the familiar part is more difficult to finger - there's a touch of Tori Amos, an Enya-like feel to some of the arrangements. I hear a bit of Sarah MacLachlan, too.
But all of these comparisons mask the truth that Parsignault's voice has a universal, timeless quality. She speaks through the piano, or perhaps the piano is speaking through her. But what a perfect medium she makes! She has one of those voices that can reach through the deepest clouds of gloom and brighten the darkest night of the soul.
There is an aesthetic that you can only know by experiencing it, one that is so close to what we are that it transcends time and space. You'll know it when you feel it, and you will certainly feel it at various times while listening to From The Dark - it is sprinkled throughout this album. Enjoy the rush, and love the person next to you for all you're worth.

After an acoustic EP we now have a fresh album from Jennifer Parsignault. Her trademark lush sound and ethereal vocals are retained. "Orbit Again" is a hopeful and sweet opener. There are shades of Enya in the pretty, layered "On the Outside." Parsignault sings as wonderfully as she did on her previous cd "Oh, My." The reflective lyrics sit well with the gorgeous melody. Parsignaults voice sounds alike Kate Bush here, which is always a great thing.
